Baby Basket California is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit business that currently serves Los
Angeles County. Baby Basket California's mission is to receive donations of used baby
clothes and baby gear and donate those items to other non-profits that service
underprivileged families with children 0-5 years of age. The services include providing much
needed clothing, blankets, cribs and other essential baby items to need families in
Los Angeles County.

Within Los Angeles County alone, almost 200,000 babies are born into extreme poverty. At
the same time, many children from middle and upper-class families quickly outgrow their
baby clothes and gear. By facilitating the donation of these items and providing them to local
non-profits with extensive community outreach, Baby Basket CA betters the lives of
thousands of babies.

Through the establishment of Baby Basket CA stores, non-profits facilitate distribution of
essential baby products to their clients, as well as have the added benefit of providing job
training to those in need of work skills. The program has proven that it helps develop self
-esteem in these young parents, by allowing them to receive these donations with dignity
through a Baby Basket CA store. Financial donations are used to buy specific items that a
client may need and Baby Basket California does not have, such as a double stroller.

The Baby Basket concept has been a successful pilot program for the last 18 months in
conjunction with El Nido Family Centers, a well established social service agency in Los
Angeles County. In home-based counseling agencies such as El Nido, the trust that is
developed between the client and case manager is facilitated when the case manager can
immediately help the client and their baby when they visit the home. Over and over again, in
our test pilot program, we have seen the results of this added benefit. When a mother and
father have the essential items for their baby, they can then move on to deal with other
issues that affect their lives.
